I serve on the Facility’s Taskforce. I have assisted with obtaining the facility and getting occupancy before the students started school. I assisted with the completion of the application to the SCSC (State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia), and I assisted with interviewing with the SCSC to get approved to open the school.
Also, I oversaw potential buildings/property, reviewing contracts, floor plans, landscaping documents, etc. I also networked with Community leaders (Forest Park Mayor, Clayton County Water Authority, Forest Park Fire Marshal, Clayton County Economic Development Officer, Ricky Clark (Forest Park City Manager), Jonesboro Mayor, Mr. Michael Hightower, and other Clayton County officials, etc.)
As a Board member, I attend monthly meetings to ensure that the Executive Director is aligning and achieving the goals set before them. I also serve on the Facilities Committee to ensure that the school meets its facility’s goals. Facility goals center around the physical building, surrounding grounds, interior and exterior design and any equipment acquired by the school. I also assist with appointments to the facilities taskforce that will be made by the Board chair with the advice and consent of the Board and the Executive Director.
The Facilities Committee is responsible for
Working closely with the Executive Director and the Commercial Real Estate Agent to review potential sites for the school, including going on site visits when needed.
I’m on the steering committee for Park Pride. Park Pride is a non-profit organization that is separate from but works closely with the City of Atlanta Department of Parks & Recreation. The steering committee of committed residents and stakeholders serves as liaisons to and representatives of the community and works closely with the visioning team throughout the process. The steering committee helps to develop and implement a public engagement strategy as well as participate in design discussions and decisions. Park Pride’s visioning staff and the steering committee analyze community input and balance it with site conditions, accepted industry best practices, and applicable laws and standards to develop the final list of recommendations.
